OLD FILM, YOUNG LOVE

Cameras still blow my mind, aim at something, adjust your settings, push a button and that memory is preserved forever on a bit of light sensitive material. A time machine in many ways.

There is something thrilling about shooting on film, it may have something to do with the instant culture of I-want-it-now that makes it exciting to wait – especially when the rolls are years old and you have no idea what is on them!

These may be some of my favourite photos that were among the old rolls, although not technically great, the natural warmth of the film combined with the flood of memories make them worth the wait to develop.

I wasn’t sure if it was going to lead to a whole lot of disappointment (first roll I ever developed was black – oh you need a flash when the light is getting low? Cant the camera just see what I can see?) but I was surprised to see these familiar old faces:

I would highly recommend the guys from Hillvale (@hillvalephoto) – great colours and so affordable! Negative only developments from $4 (this is not an affiliate link I am just so thrilled to find such a great service that I need to tell you about it!)

Have you got old rolls sitting in the fridge waiting to be developed?
